Spykee World is an independent guide to home security technology and consumer robots. We cover the gear people actually consider bringing home: Wi-Fi cameras, hidden camera detection, dash cams, robot companions, robot dogs, and STEM robot kits, plus the questions that come with them.

What this site is

Most buying advice in this space is recycled press releases. We take a different approach. Every guide starts with research: manufacturer documentation, published specs, community threads where long-term owners compare notes, and the laws that apply to recording devices in a home. When something is marketing fiction, we say so. When a cheap fixed camera beats a thousand-dollar robot, we say that too.

The Spykee story

This domain has a history worth keeping. From 2007 to 2012, spykeeworld.com was the official home of the Meccano Spykee, a build-it-yourself Wi-Fi spy robot that became a favorite of the robot-hacking community. That era ended long before we arrived, but old links to this domain still carry people looking for the robot’s story. Our Spykee heritage hub keeps that documentation alive: the robot’s full history, where its manuals and firmware survive today, and the modern kits that carry its spirit.

Who runs it

Spykee World is written and edited by Evan Marsh, a longtime security-tech and robotics enthusiast who has spent years in the communities where this gear gets debated, repaired, and modified. Editorial decisions are made here, independently, and nowhere else.

One person researches, writes, and edits everything published here, and is accountable for corrections. If something on this site is wrong, say so and it gets fixed on the page with a note saying what changed, listed in the corrections log.

Spykee World is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Meccano, Spin Master, or any manufacturer, brand, or retailer discussed on this site. We acquired this domain at a public auction in 2026. The current publication has no connection to any previous owner or operator of the domain, including the original Meccano site and the review blog that operated here from 2018 to 2021. Product names appear for identification and commentary only.
